South Los Angeles was predominantly white until the 1960s when blacks started moving other areas. Since the 1965 riots, it became prodominantly black until the 1990s.

Read these articles. It explains it all.

I guess it all depends on your location in this state...I also read an article a while back stating that white people are moving back into areas of L.A that are being gentrified.

Oh, where? Seriously! My partner and I want to move over the hill (we're in SFV West Hills area). What areas are being gentrified?

I think the whole city is becoming gentrified. Los Angeles has a new nickname, "Gentrification City".

Reality. My family, on both sides, was in Inglewood and Windsor Hills/Ladera Heights areas dating back to the early twenties. By 1963, everybody was gone, relocating to Orange County and Kern County. Now there is Black Flight taking place in South Central, as Latinos move in on what have been Black enclaves since the late forties through the early sixties. Neighborhoods turn over... it's a fact of life. Not many people realize that the Boyle Heights section of L.A. used to be almost 100% Jewish at one time. Now you couldn't find a Jew up there if your life depended on it. Unless it was a Mexican Jew, of course.

Even though South L.A. is predominantly Latino, the southwestern or the majority of the westside of the region is predominantly black.

The demography of South L.A. was beginning to change in the late 1980s, even though it was still predominantly black prior to the 1990s.
