I'm looking to move somewhere that is close to wherever the other singles are, to widen my dating pool (as an early 30s male). My simple guess based on just looking at the map would be Mid-Wilshire or whereabouts since it's equidistant from the westside and downtown, but I don't know much about the area.

Other preferences:
  • Slightly prefer suburban over urban areas
  • Would like to live in newer construction
  • Not super close to freeways/pollution
  • Max $3000 rent

Thanks for reading!

There are singles in their 20's and 30's all over LA.
Need a lot more info.

Do you have a job that requires commuting? Where is that job located?
What is your preferred "social scene" for dates? Like are you boho/hipster, flip flops casual, bougie, etc etc.

Without that info, I would say the following:

Towards the East
Parts of Silver Lake, Echo Park, Los Feliz have decent amounts of young singles but still, retain a calm residential feeling.
You wouldn't want to live on the noisier major thoroughfare like Sunset Blvd, but maybe a few blocks away instead. Echo Park is the least expensive of the three but can feel a little ratty over there in certain sections (don't live right next to the lake for example). This area tends to lean into the BoHo/hipster scene, so if you don't want to date somebody like that, maybe don't go for that option. Alternatively, you could just go on dates in near-ish DTLA or Hollywood instead.

Mid-Wilshire/Mid-City
Lots of residential streets with mid-rise apartment buildings. Reasonable distance from urban attractions in Koreatown, Fairfax, Beverly Grove, and WeHo. This is a geographically neutral area to live in. You could go on dates on the Westside and go on dates in Central LA. It wouldn't be a hop, skip and jump, but it would be a modest drive after work on a weekday or on a weekend.

East San Fernando Valley
This is a wildcard option.
Studio City actually has a decent number of young singles (on Ventura Blvd or just a couple blocks north of it). Same goes for Sherman Oaks. The bang for your buck will be better here on rent. Though I suspect your dating pool will be smaller compared with the other options mentioned

Sawtelle
Lots of young singles. Lots.
Easy access to Palms, West LA, and Culver (also - decent numbers of young singles).
I don't know if you can find an apartment in your price point there. Maybe there are some deals going. I'm assuming you want 3k for a 1 bedroom, right? Sawtelle is probably on the pricier side of these options. It's also not very "suburban" in Sawtelle. I threw it in there just because its demographics and location would probably appeal to you.

Thanks for the suggestions, sounds like I can't go wrong with any of them. I should've mentioned I get healthcare in central LA, so will probably avoid the valley. Job is remote so no commuting required. If I had to pick, I'd say somewhere between boho/hipster and bougie (not super casual). Looking for 1 bedroom, but I'd be open to a studio.

In that case, I think you should look at Mid-Wilshire, Silver Lake, and Los Feliz.

DowntownLA
Downtown SantaMonica and Venice beach
Hollywood
Downtown Glendale
Downtown Pasadena or old Town
West Hollywood/Melrose
Koreatown.

These are the larger concentration of younger 20 to 40s areas, has newer construction, near b a rs, restaurants nightlife, that interests many single non family types. All very urban

Less urban, smaller and less dense, mix of apartments and sfh , all ages but has some coolness
Silver lake
Los feliz
Echo park
Highland Park
Noho arts district
Studio city
Culver city Downtown

Not as familiar with South Bay, long beach, south central , orange county line.
Young people in 20s 30s are scattered all over the rest of LA, but the places I listed are concentration areas.
Often rents are more expensive as there as re more amenities nearby, more gritty details, more noise, homeless. Newest apartments are in the more urban areas as other areas tend to restrict new large buildings

.
