Sup, I'm a 22 y/o guy from Oahu, Hawaii and I plan on moving to LA. I'm looking to experience an exciting lifestyle. I've always wanted to get off the rock. I'll be looking into a community college where I can take up automotives and computer tech in the mean time--I want to be a mechanic for Benz or tuning garage. For work, I can transfer to the Roy's in LA coming from the Original Roy's in Hawaii Kai. Great way to make a quick buck until I can get situated in my career.

Big city life sounds nuts. I'm from the burbs, but I've always been a townie and I love the atmosphere. Always something to do. I know it's nothing to be compared as to city life in downtown LA, but I think I'd really like it. I wanna find a nice 2bed/2bath loft in downtown. I've seen a few that I like such as: Vero, Glo, and Luma South. Anyone got a crib there? LMK how it is.... Also if there's anything else that's interesting--Like what to do, etc..

Thanks!

downtown LA is not very live-able in my opinion. there is rampant homeless and dangerous neighborhoods. seriously, you gotta be careful what block you are on. it is an ok place to work or see a sporting event or go shopping but i would not want to live downtown.

coming from hawaii you might like the vibe at the beach better...might want to check out the hermosa beach / manhattan beach area.

Have you ever been to California, specifically Los Angeles? Los Angeles in my opinion is not "big city living". It is a lot of suburbs smouched together with tall buildings and conjestion. It doesn't compare to cities like San Francisco,Chicago, New York or Boston. For the club scene and nightlife, you might like living in West Hollywood or Hollywood near Melrose, Sunset Blvd. and Fairfax Blvd. to name a few. More singles in these areas.

The best community college to take automotive and computer tech is Los Angeles Trade Techincal College. It's located in Downtown LA. I will also voice that imo you don't want to live in DLA. I would recommend living in Koreatown. It's very close and is a safe area.

totally. LA is a giant collection of smaller neighborhoods/burbs. it is NOTHING like SF, NYC, etc..

Downtown isn't where it's happening in Los Angeles. Depending on exactly what you want (night life) perhaps Hollywood or one of the beach towns: Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, or up north Venice or Santa Monica.

Downtown isn't even a place for most Angelinos. We don't like downtown and we don't go there, unless we have to. Downtown is not a destination spot.

Hey Bruhda!
Why you movin' to LA. For some wahine!?! I'm from Makiki and Kanehoe, now livin' in SFV for three years. Let me tell you, brah, you want closer to the downtown area. The lofts are wonderful. Don't be walkin' out at night, though, if your with some brudahs, yeah! I have friends living in the downtown area and they love it. As a matter of fact, his penthouse neighbor is an actor (he recieved an Oscar Nom. some time back) and he's really great. Both say life here is almost like NYC. They would never retreat to the hills. He's convinced a few of his actor friends and alike to move there b/c the lack of paparazzi stalkers. Any way, the posters haven't experienced downtown like my partner and I have. It's changed. Not dramatically, but it gave noticed to my partner b/c he lived in the LA area since '81. We are now looking in the areas before they go quickly. Downtown is the hidden secret in LA. It's like Chinatown in HNL at night. Keep your guard up and watch out for the menehune! It's not all that bad! we've been going to our friends place at least once a month and had no problems. Just be sensible and safe, brah, and you'll do fine!

Go to youtube and type in the search bar loftlivingLA. They have lofts for sale and lease.

Mahalo nui loa for reading, Brudha!
Aloha.....

I agree, "big city living" is not LA. It's basically a giant suburb...and I know many Hawaii locals are also strangely obsessed with Las Vegas - same idea. That's also just a giant suburb/slum surrounding a strip of casinos and a boring downtown. "City life" is more like Seattle, SF, NYC, Boston....
