I am considering making weekday (not weekend) trips to LA and needed to be on beach for medical purpose, coming from bay area. I see next week projected to be very hot so could be perfect.
I know LA has highest concentrations of corona infection due to population size so i am wondering where would be safest?

I prefer to avoid traffic so coming from north would prefer to stay around Santa monica beach and stay in hotel outside the city. Are SM beach crowded during these days on weekdays?

If you're trying to stay away from big crowds in areas with high coronavirus rates, coming to Los Angeles' MOST POPULAR beach is not your best option. The beaches further north-west in Ventura County will be less crowded. I believe Ventura County is doing better than LA County on coronavirus rates. I'd recommend going there instead.

I think you would be ok. The number of people on the beaches during the week is generally fairly light, especially now that school is back in. If you go slightly south to the area around the Marina or Playa Vista, the crowds are even lighter.

This site gives you a fairly detailed breakdown of cases, hospitalizations, etc by city/communities within the county. Santa Monica's case rate and death rate are both on the low side, comparatively. COVID-19 Locations & Demographics - LA County Department of Public Health

I would check out Dockweiler State Beach located south of Santa Monica and Playa Del Rey and west of LAX. It should be fairly quiet and uncrowded during the week.
