How do you find out if a certain intersection has a camera pointed at the corner for a california stop making a right hand turn.

"california stops" are legal unless there is a posted sign saying "no right on red" (and such signs are rare), so why would the red-light camera be pointed at the corner to catch drivers making them?

You must come to a complete stop before making a right turn on a red light....

yes, i know that. my understanding is that it is called a "california stop," because this was the first state to permit right turns on red lights. it doesn't mean that you don't have to stop before turning, and, of course, you must yield to cross traffic.

a california roll is a very short stop, not even three seconds. lately i have heard people use california stop and california roll interchangeably. either way you must always stop at a stop sign or a red light. even if you are turning right. just follow the rules. you cant be in that much of a hurry that 3 seconds make a difference.
as for finding out where red light cameras, you can do a google search. some of them catch right turners, others dont. i am not sure if they specify what type of camera it is , but the best bet is to obey the law!

I had to chuckle at the semantics, but I'll participate. A stop is a stop is a stop. Period. A California roll is just that- a roll thru the light or stop sign as you turn right. The only variable is how fast you roll through it.

@ katenik - I love the "california" roll comment!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont think there are such things as cameras to catch California Stops.

Those redlight cameras snap shots of the car in the interesection with the image of the redlight in the background. Guilty! They are activated once you cross the intersection and the light is red. In case you want to know, they blur out the images of the passanger but keep the driver clear..... I speak from experience.

A camera for a right turn would be difficult because you can legally enter the intersection while the light is red to turn right.

Interesting because I've always know it as the California Roll but, you're right, most might assume you're talking about sushi. In any event, back to the OP. Here's one site:
