Which of these three beach communities, in your opinion, would be the best for a young, college-age male, in terms of affordability, nicest area (crime/pullotion), most pleasent people, and the most fun nightlife/most things to do for a young guy?

All opinions are welcomed.

And yes, I'm aware that I spelled "Manhattan" wrong

Hermosa Beach along the strand. Not Inland.

Hermosa is cheaper than manhattan, manhattan technically is safer, but that safety comes at a price, which is less party atmosphere. There are some great places for weekend fun in manhattan, but the cost is more.

A good spot in between is also something to consider. Look in both areas and hoping in between both is no problem.

The further inland you go, the cheaper it gets, but the less desirable it becomes for you, based on what you've posted.

The nice thing is that along the strand, you can ride your bike home from the bars very safely and generally without incident. Roomates may be key to making this work for you.

The farther north you are (generally speaking) the more expensive rents are going to be. Manhattan will be more than Hermosa, which will be more than Redondo, which will be more than Torrance. As for night life, Hermosa is tops, no real competition. Manhattan is second with a few decent places, but Redondo is a distant third.

Hermosa hands down. Manhattan Beach is already getting a little older and has a very definite upscale, more refined feel to it. The pier at Redondo is too touristy feeling, and there's less to do for college-age people. In Hermosa, you feel like you've landed in college heaven.

When you say Manhattan is getting a little older what age demographic do you mean? I'm female, 27 and would like to live in Redondo, Hermosa or Manhattan as well but would prefer a little more of the 30-something group instead of college age.

you would prefer manhattan beach then. MB is trendier and certainly more upscale than HB. Don't get me wrong, HB is a really nice place, but it definitely serves the college aged/20 something crowd quite well. MB also has some party spots, but its certaily not at the level of HB.

Manhattan Median Age: 38 years
Hermosa Median Age: 34 years
Redondo Median Age: 37 years

Hermosa is much smaller than the other two cities and maintains more of the old world beach town. Kind of the rebellious teenager culture with a much more active bar scene than upscale eating and drinking establishments. So, each has it's own unique atmosphere.

Default Hermosa Hands Down

Parking. Parking. Parking. You don't think this matters a lot in LA, but it does. The downside to living in Manhattan Beach is that there's about four bars, two of them are pretty upscale. Hermosa has the better college age crowd and you'll find more people in your own age group.

Living in Manhattan Beach is Hell unless you have a garage. You'll pay a premium in rent, you'll be fighting for parking every evening and you'll at least pay a few parking tickets while you're living here. Street sweeping starts at 8am on the major streets so if you live here be prepared to shuffle your car around four times a week.
