The problem is it creates a situation where people are paying 50, 60, 70% of their income in rent just to get these units. This creates a situation where they cant really save a meaningful amount. So when the rounds of lay offs start, which they will, then these people are left with next to nothing in a nation that fights to tear up safety nets, they are then homeless and then the well to do start trying to euthanize them.

Most people are about 6 months away from being homeless, best case, in alot of cases a few pay checks away from it. Rent prices are the reason for that, people technically have the money for said rent but it eats into their ability to save/build a buisness/etc. Unhinged, unregulated rent prices are quite literally destroying the USA because it erodes entrepreneurship because no one has enough disposable income to do anything significant with.

Maybe you can continue this discussion on your other thread about pensions. This thread is about homelessness in Los Angeles.

Excuse me? YOU posted the link to the article that stated that. If you don't believe the content of an article, don't post the link.

Now Garcetti is inviting the press to skid row lol .. can’t make this stuff up !
What an embarrassment for L.A

Hopefully they get their Hepatitis vaccines before they show up .

He created this mess by being so “tolerant “ , now he’s trying to blame it on the federal government . So I guess he blames his buddy Obama too ? Trump hasn’t been President too long .

He’s so arrogant to think that he could do nothing about the homeless tents and nobody would put the blame on him ?

Many political consultants believe the sidewalks lined with homeless tents, particularly the concentration in downtown Los Angeles, would be a devastating backdrop to any campaign for national office.

But Garcetti says he would welcome the national press to downtown's Skid Row, which the Los Angeles Times recently proclaimed "a national disgrace."

I hope they come to skid row because federal cuts by this administration and in previous years are part of the problem. People ignoring a mental health crisis, people saying that housing isn't our responsibility anymore as it was in the ‘60s and ‘70s have only compounded this."

While Garcetti is not blameless, he did not create this mess. It's been going on for a long time.

L.A.'s homelessness surged 75% in six years. Here's why the crisis has been decades in the making

Yes he didn’t invent homeless of course .. but 6 years is about how long he’s been Mayor and it went up 75 percent which is an insane amount .

Especially since ending homeless or reducing it was one of his big campaign promises . There is no doubt the liberal attitude and policies are to blame .
Because when you look at neighboring cities the problem is nothing like in L.A and their homeless actually seem to realize there are rules .

An example is Burbank , you see a sprinkling of homeless in downtown Burbank but they aren’t aggressively panhandling , exposing themselves or yelling or threatening people like they are freely allowed to do in L.A.

Ditto for Pasadena , Glendale , etc .

He was hired to do a job and failed big time .

Hired to do a job that no one could do any better. If there isn't enough shelter space you can't keep the homeless from sleeping on the streets. Every single housing /shelter project is met with protests from nearby residents and businesses. It looks to me like he is set up to fail no matter what he does, build shelters/housing over the objections of local residents and he's damned for that, don't expand shelter space and the homeless stay on the streets and then that's his fault too?

Good grief, that's crazy.

I'm sorry, Garcetti, but YOU are to blame here, not the feds.

Garcetti is the poster child for why this state is tired of letting the left handle this- what an ugly mess and he has so many proteges. We are going to have to build more prisons I guess- low level to high security ....waaaaay overdue...just ask the many many victims.... facilities will be money very well spent on people that obviously can't and/or don't care for themselves or their surroundings, much less any type of unsupervised lodging. The left has really mucked this up and we are tired of it.
Maybe after we get this cleaned up we can start on early intervention and educational programs including vocational- once this situation is out of the hands of the liberals, we will get some reasonable choices and fiscal responsibility back.
