Everyone sends their homeless to LA.

It's a federal problem. We have a pension crisis to take care of.

We were the 5th largest while the pound was hovering in the 1.20's....

We would be the 4th largest if we didn't have a pension issue...

The pension issue is going to get much, much worse before it gets better. Unions and Democrats hold a tight alliance in that state.

Well, something needs to be done. Let me put it this way:

We can do nothing or we can do something. If we do nothing, things continue on the way they are or get worse. Doing something is a gamble, but it's better than doing nothing.

For all those who say to lock up the homeless, where does the money come from for that? Does LA have enough jail cells to put 58,000 people in? Or the money to feel them all three meals a day? I mean, I guess you can arrest them, because, hey, that's one way to house the homeless. And can you imagine the court cases and how backed up that will get? Want to sue someone in small claims? Better be prepared to wait at least 4 or 5 years.

Then there's the people who live in campers. Give them tickets for parking illegally. Ticket doesn't get paid. Give them more tickets. Tickets don't get paid. Issue a warrant and arrest these people for not paying their tickets.

They go to jail, camper gets towed. People still have no way to pay the tickets, but say they get released from jail. Then where do they go? Camper's gone, they can't afford another one, so how about a tent? Until they get arrested for camping in public. And on and on we go.

Edited to add: do we really want to fill jail cells with the homeless when there are so many more serious criminals that need to get locked up? And I don't even want to get into the problems of treating them medically, or the treating the jails for bedbugs and lice, or dealing with those who go through withdrawal.

Put them to work. Give them housing, food, healthcare, but put them to work on public works projects. If they don't want to work, then let them stay homeless.

Are you ruminating about the fantasy homeless work camps in Antelope Valley again?

I would prefer that option, Sacramento. It should be close to lawmakers. They need to be enriched by having many more people from different walks of life there.
