That's my experience. haven't used Westside in about 6 years but when I did every listing I saw was also on craigslist or some other site. Landlords are fools if they don't list their places everywhere...especially the free sites that get the most views

Why not live in Playa Vista? If you can find a roommate situation? Playa Vista is great and everything you could need is there...and it's basically a straight shoot up Jefferson to get to the Culver City Mall, Trader Joe's etc.

Is that 1200 including utilities?

Which is why I took that out of my post when I read further.

At that budget, you could look in Inglewood, Liemert Park, Mid-City, and maybe Palms.

Take a look at Westchester. Very close to Playa Vista (less than 10 min) and you should be able to find a room or studio in your budget. It's not really a nightlife hotspot (!), but you would be a fairly short Lyft ride from Marina Del Rey, Venice, Culver City, and Santa Monica.

Westside Rentals worked well for me, twice found great places at good prices.

Also what's the best place to find a place? Mainly been using Craigslist. Is westside rentals worth the $55?
Mar Vista may be a good choice. Stay out of Brentwood -- it's overpriced and there are homeless people who wander around trying to get into parked cars and sometimes even wander into residential backyards and it takes the LAPD two hours to come out and do nothing about it. Brentwood is turning rotten and should be called Brentrottenwood.

Find a private room for rent in Palms or Culver City. There are a few bus routes that will give you a <25min commute to Playa Vista.

Any reason you can't spend more than $1000 on rent? Check out the attached budget, which includes some pretty hefty debt.

On that budget I don't think you find anything on the Westside at all meaning anything El Segundo and north.

I am not a fan of Inglewood at all. You may want to look at parts of Hawthorne, Gardena, and maybe North Torrance. Gardena has bomb food, and any of the three are a 15-20 min drive to the beach. You are probably looking at a 20-30 minute commute. You may also want to consider roommates.

You might meet more people with roommates, assuming you find a good one! There some losers out there for sure!

Another option is to rent a bedroom in a family home, you just need to be respectful and party away from home.
