Thanks so much for all your replies. I called the gas company and the woman I spoke with said the price jump was probably due to keeping the thermostat on auto at 69 degrees since it has been colder in LA these past couple of months. I still thought the price jump was absurd so I wanted to see what you all thought. My husband just called the gas company again and now they said that they are having problems with their billing and the statements might reflect rolled over amounts and they are working to correct the issue. Hopefully the last explanation is the correct one and our new bill will explain those errors. In the meantime I will read our meter & check the water heater settings. Thanks again for the input!!
