Yes, it's Willowbrook, my error.

Lets say you wanted to move into an appartment in a decent part of north LA. How much rent would it be for a 1br?

From Wikipedia: " El Segundo High School has been featured in many films and television shows, including WarGames, Joe Dirt, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Boston Public, The Hot Chick, Yours, Mine and Ours, Even Stevens, 24, Joan of Arcadia, The O.C., Superbad, Room 222, Epic Movie, Shredderman Rules and many others. Some promotional T-shirts sold in El Segundo claim that El Segundo High School has appeared in more films and TV shows than any other high school."

that would be my opinion...I dont really see a middle class here...unless they are trying too hard to keep up with the Joneses...and most likely they are maxed out in debt trying too. Kinda sad.

You need to make a very healthy income to have a family in a good, safe, neighborhood with decent schools. (think 175,000 a yr or more) We live in such an area...and before we were able to get into a house...we rented...I had never seen some many families living in apts and townhomes and condos(we're talking families with 2,3 and 4 kids)...just to get their kids into a good school district...because they couldnt afford the single family home.

The upside...is that some areas are coming down in price...so if you have a decent down pymt...it could be in your favor now with the housing market like it is....the desirable areas, I think are still too high...but there are alot of areas that are coming down...and it is about time.

No one really had an answer. If the area is nice it is likely upper middle class. There is limited housing in LA for a true middle class person. If someone is a Barber or a new Teacher or Accountant in their 20s or 30s without alot of tenure making a good middle class income of $40K, you are forced to live in a bad neighborhood in LA. In Omaha you would have a higher standard of living in similar jobs. Is LA worth the trouble for a middle income person? I do not think so!

south gate on the top 10 of worst places? you obviously never been there. its funny how people just throw out stuff like that proving they know very little... anyhow middle class neighborhoods are found all over the south bay and the valley. but they will be next to working class neighbor hoods. as for LA proper, try the west side, but honestly there are dodgy spots all over town, unless you are in the nicer areas like bev hills or live off of highland and 6th then there will be some element of riff raff (regardless of color). the middle class is also in the southeastern LA county bordering the OC. but thats kinda far from the central core of LA.
