Hello, fellow foumers!

To make a long story short, I'm flying out of LAX for Xmas with United (terminal 6 or 7), and I have free lounge access to the Virgin lounge in Terminal 3.

Is there some sort of tram that takes you from Terminal to Terminal (like most huge airports) once inside past security? Or do you have to walk it?

I live here, but have only been inside and utilized LAX once. I pick out-of-town guests up and drop off with frequency, though, so I do know the horseshoe layout.

The website isn't giving clear information.

Thanks!

There's a shuttle that goes around the terminals, I think its A bus. Do double check or check the driver, or else u'll take a side trip to the parking lots
But don't you have to be a ticket holder to access the lounge area?

I have a Priority Pass membership through one of my credit cards; doesn't matter what airline I use.

Is this tram outside? So, would I have to leave and go outside and then back in through security again?

Or is the walk not bad from inside?

You will have to go through security again. From the LAX website: LAX Frequently Asked Questions

If you arrive on a flight at Terminals 5, 6, 7, or 8 and connecting to another flight within these terminals, you do not have to exit the secured side of TSA screening as these terminals are linked with passageways. However, if you arrive on a flight at Terminals 1, 2, 3, or the Tom Bradley International Terminals and connecting to a flight at Terminals 5, 6, 7, or 8, you have to exit the secured side of TSA screening and the terminal and walk across to the terminal or board the Airline Connections “A” Shuttle (which operates on 12-15 minute intervals) under the LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections blue sign on the Lower/Arrivals Level islands in front of each terminal.

Also, you should check to make sure they'll allow you in a terminal if you don't have a ticket on a flight out of that terminal. Not sure if the Priority Pass allows it - but United has a lounge in Terminal 7 and Alaska has one in Terminal 6.

No way to walk inside. The only terminals connected inside security are 5, 6, 7, and 8. You could walk outside, probably 15 minutes if you walk fast. The terminal bus is most likely quicker. I've never heard of an airline pass that will let you use the lounge when you are flying a different airline (even with airline credit cards) so unless you've done it before you should double-check that that is allowed.

Posted while I was writing. Good point, I doubt they'd even let you past terminal 3 TSA without a ticket going out of terminal 3.

I just called AMEX and confirmed like three times lol that I don't need a specific airline ticket to get in there, just a boarding pass and the Priority Pass card.

AMEX screwed us over this year eliminating the Admirals, US Air and United clubs, so I think they're trying to make up for it.

Also, I read an article (wish I had the link...) earlier that said as of earlier this year LAX now does allow you in any terminal with a boarding pass; doesn't have to be a certain airline. So, that's nice!

What a poorly designed airport. I guess I've never actually flown into LAX, always pick people up.

What I meant is that is the lounge inside or outside the security area?
If its inside, I'm pretty sure, you have to be a ticket holder for an airline in that terminal in order to go pass security to the lounge.

And yes, you have to be outside the terminal to catch the shuttle.
If you are hardcore enough, you can get a free refundable ticket just to access the lounge.
Enjoy!! =)

Just recall this interesting article
Genius man used one first class airplane ticket to eat free for a year

Update:
Googled and found this

Agreed, LAX is probably one of the worst "International" airport.
Yet the "international" portion is already slightly improved from 5yrs ago!
