This page says the South Pasadena metro Gold Line station used to be called the Mission station.
Some people thought it was the other way around.

In the wikipedia page, the map along the right side says it's called the South Pasadena station.
Was there a point where it was renamed, or has it always been called that? I have a recent official map and it says Mission there.

When you ride the Gold Line and approach the station, the automatic speaker says Mission but the train operator corrects it and says South Pasadena.

Confused!

If you go to the station itself, what do the signs say there?

Maybe the audio announcement is just saying "Mission [in] South Pasadena," and is not saying two different station names.

The sign says South Pasadena. But no, the audio announcement actually says "Mission station", and then the operator comes on to correct it and say "South Pasadena".

When I lived in South Pas, I believe it was called "Mission Station".

It was changed to South Pasadena recently... within the past year or so.

Generally Metro uses names of streets and cross-streets as station names so people know where they are like Hollywood Highland station or what once was Mission St. Other times they use a neighborhood name or a city name like Chinatown, Little Tokyo Arts District or in this case South Pasadena. Sometimes it is a landmark Union Station, Pershing Square or MacArthur Park. I dont know which one is better. I think Santa Monica wants to change their station names before the construction is done like 4th/Colorado to Downtown Santa Monica or something like that.
