When I visit a place I want to find wacky and odd stores, architecture, or anything else off the beaten path.

Can anyone recommend places to go other than the famous landmarks?

I know of

here are three spots that would definitely qualify as wacky or offbeat:

museum of jurassic technology
The Museum of Jurassic Technology - Culver City, California
The Museum Of Jurassic Technology
Museum of Jurassic Technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

soap plant

venice mosaic tile house

This place is a trip - definitely worth checking out if you're bored one day. We went there, probably ..... close to 10 years ago(?) ..... very interesting.

No, but I have been to the LA Coroner's gift shop (but that wasn't so hot):

Haven't been to Das Bunker, but heard good things. I have been to Bar Sinister and love it for people watching; upstairs is "Purgatory" (a light BDSM dungeon with a bar and comfy couches). Fun times.

Not sure it is off-beat enough, but Watts Towers are on my list too as I've heard they are also really amazing to see.

Watts Towers doesn't have Soap Plant's bizarro factor, but it is pretty striking to see this huge, hand assembled construction of metal in the middle of a struggling neighborhood of little houses. Well worth the trip (Blue Line to 103rd St. then a short walk).
