If commuting to work wasn't an issue, would you prefer to live in downtown Culver City or Los Feliz?

Los Feliz.

Although, while I apologize in advance for hijacking your thread, does anyone know where all the live music in Los Feliz is?

I keep hearing about how it's a great location for live music and a "hipster" haven but all I've seen is that it's just a neighborhood.

The information you've gotten is dated. In the 1990s Los Feliz was both of those things, now it is neither. Some great bars and restaurants, but live music and most hipsters have moved east.

It is still Los Angeles' most desirable neighborhood, bar none.

I like both Los Feliz and downtown Culver City, but Los Feliz is better than CC for its cultural amenities like an indie bookstore and a newsstand.

Both are very different. If you want to be closer to the ocean and more of a city-vibe near the westside, go with downtown Culver City.

If you want to be closer to the mountains with Griffith Park and hiking trails nearby that near Pasadena and downtown LA, go with Los Feliz.

I've lived near both. I'd pick Culver City over Los Feliz.

Excellent info. Thanks. So where east can I find what was once big in Los Feliz? Echo Park?

If you like live music and bars, I'm thinking more like downtown.

Echo Park is Bananas with a high potassium count!! But if I had to go with either of these, I'd say Los Feliz, with hardly any competition. Culver City is generic, but is close to the ocean, so there is a trade-off.

Oh Bananas is crazy good!!! I also added the high potassium count to convey how awesome said banana is. That banana being echo park. Echo Park is my favorite place in LA. Take it over any schmancy town on the west side.
