Hello all --

Will be visiting my DD in SM later this summer, and my dream is to get a family photo at the beach.

What are the best areas to do this? I've been thinking Manhattan Beach pier (SM Pier -- too crowded!). Where else?

I also know there are some very scenic areas in Malibu -- can anyone help me pinpoint an area for the perfect sunset photo?

Also -- is a permit required?

Thanks for all suggestions!

my favorite scenic beach in LA is Torrance beach with the cliffs of PV as the backdrop.

What is a DD?

Palisades Park in Santa Monica with the ocean and Santa Monica Mountains in the background is pretty nice.

So is Pt. Dume in Malibu.

Take the 10 West until it ends, which turns into PCH. You pass Santa Monica (cheesy and touristy, keep going) along PCH, on the left is endless places to turn off, ocean all around, for miles, hours actually.

Manhattan Beach provides views north to Malibu, views south to PV and views southwest to Catalina.

I second that. Or go further up the road to Palos Verdes to cliffs overlooking the "Queen's Necklace" of L. A. bay.

Laguna Beach is too far.
