So I am middle income person with a potential job offer at USC. I will only take the job if I can afford to live in CA. What are safe neighborhoods around USC Health and Sciences Campus that I can look at for potential places to live? Don't want to be too far from work, because of gas prices. 15 miles at the most. Any suggestions? Would an $85,000 salary be enough to rent out there and live comfortably?

If you are single, that kind of income should be fine anywhere that is not supper expensive.

I have heard USC stands for Univ for spoiled children, so I am guessing the area around is pretty expensive

You should look into downtown, Pasadena and South Pasadena. They are all close to USC's Health Sciences campus.

Yep. Downtown, South Pasadena and even Glendale/Burbank areas are within reasonable commute. You do not want to live close by the campus there.

There is a pharaceutical professor there - Professor Wolff who looks just like an older Einstein, crazy white hair and all. Also, there is a really cool doctor (think his name is Dr. Spicer) who chairs their health research dept/Medical Review board there. Do know either of them?

no way. USC is in a bad area. students must live directly on campus or several miles away.

if you're single, definitely try south pasadena or pasadena. depending on how old you, you may not like it though. i may be wrong, but for some reason i have always thought that pasadena is more of a west hollywood for older people.

in pasadena, you actually wouldnt have to drive to work. you could take a bus to a Gold Line Metro station, then get off at the nearest stop which is about 1.5 miles away. then take a bus there. if you lived in Downtown LA, you could just take a bus all the way there.
