Although it's not near Torrance ..but you said you'd be going to other parts of L.A .

A pretty nice park to walk around with ducks is Lake Balboa Park in the San Fernando Valley (Van Nuys/Lake Balboa) specifically.

City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks

Only thing is there not really much else for tourists to do in the Valley besides Universal Studios which is technically in the Valley..but very close to Hollywood.

I would look on Yelp.com and put in the address of hotel u are staying..it's best if you are walking or taking a taxi if you'll be drinking. You can get a good idea of how a place will be from the reviews. Not sure if you've been on there before.

There's been a small change of plans. Ultimately, we'll be in Hollywood side, but in the beginning, we might book a hotel somewhere. Any place that has a more centralized location?

Thanks.

Check out the rooftop deck at Hennessey's at the Hermosa pier on Tuesdays for two fers. After you can check out the other bars next door. Some other ideas for food....Mexican Riviera or El burritos Jr for mexican. The loft on Hawthorne for teriyaki chicken, beef and rice. Good stuff either in hermosa or redondo or kings Hawaiian (beet corner beef hash and eggs ever) for breakfast. Admiral risty in pv for the best steaks. Chart house in redondo for a sunset dinner. Kinda all over the place, sorry.

If you make to the Santa Monica / Playa Del Rey / Marina Del Rey beaches, make sure you get a meal at the C&O Trattoria at Venice Beach. Casual Italian cuisine. It's at the end of Washington Blvd. You can eat indoors or enjoy the patio if the weather is decent. Been eating there for more than 15 years and have never had even a so-so meal. They knock the ball out of the park every time. Be careful not to become addicted to their baked garlic bread balls.

Since you're in the Hollywood area, be sure to go to Pink's Chili Dogs on La Brea & Melrose. There's always a line, but it's worth the wait. Very creative menu. (Get my favorite...two chili dogs and two creme sodas! ).

The Getty Museum and Griffith Park are can't-miss choices.

Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, Universal Studios, L.A. Live are all reasonably close by. A drive around Beverly Hills, through Malibu, Topanga Canyon, or Mulholland Drive is always a unique 'L.A.' experience as well.
