I have been living in SoCal for 5 years now. I lived in San Diego (UTC, Mira Mesa, North Park) for 3 years and LA (La Brea, Whitley Heights, Encino) for 2 years. I have NEVER had a roach problem. My friend has lived in Hollywood for 4 years and is dead certain that roaches are everywhere in LA. If this is the case then why haven't I experienced this? I thought roaches were only in dirty areas? A friend from London came out to visit and stayed at Banana Bungalow Hostel (5920 Hollywood Blvd) and found 2 roaches in her room.

I've only seen one roach and that was by the Piano Bar in Hollywood but never in the household.

Does LA have a roach problem? Is it only in certain parts of LA? I'm curious.

a friend of mine in koreatown has a bit of a roach problem, they've fumigated the whole building but the little critters keep coming back. Guess just the combo of warm temps, moisture and dark areas

Yes, they're everywhere. If you have an SFR, you can generally keep them out, but there are plenty of sewers and drainage ditches everywhere to keep them around. The highfalutin types call them "water bugs" rather than roaches.

There's a difference between cockroaches and waterbugs. We have cockroaches in our apartment thanks to a bad neighbor who has since moved out. We are having trouble getting rid of them too. I don't really wanna fog but I guess we may have to.

Fogging is unlikely to eradicate them. Better off calling pest control. Crack and crevice treatments are really the only way to keep them out(and that's limited) in an apartment building where other units are infested

How comes I have never experienced this throughout all the apartments I've lived in? I think I'll call my landlord to find out more because I do plan on moving.

Please can you explain what an SFR is? Because google can't and also we're not all American here. Thanks

Everywhere doesn't necessarily mean your apt is infested, but they are around exterior areas, living in sewers and such. They're like crickets, ants, and every other bug around here.

SFR=Single Family Residence(meaning a house)

I see.

I always assumed that the roaches were more populars in areas like Hollywood and Downtown especially Fashion District area and if it's the valley then areas like Van Nuys and North Hollywood.

Yeah I am getting the idea we are totally screwed here now.

This is an old dump building. The previous tenant was insane and somehow the roaches came over from him. He's gone but the roaches aren't.

We are in a supposedly expensive and desireable city yet the landlord has started renting to section 8 tenants.
