I am American, female mid-20ties, have lived in LA for 6 years but then my situation changed and now I am currently staying in Europe for a couple months with extended family and would like to find employment in Los-angeles or OC via internet. I am educated (Masters + JD in progress), but still a student (part-time law) and would like to find any job that would allow me to at least minimally sustain myself while I study and pay bills (rent, car) etc. I dont mind working in starbucks second shift, etc but ideally would like some professional environment (law firm assistant, paid internship etc,)Is it possible at all to find via internet from Europe? Or do I have to first relocate and then go about finding a job? The problem is I am looking for a place to live online too and it will depend on where I find a job. I can expect some monthly allowance from family but not too much (a few hundred at best). Please advise. Hope for help from forumers.

One report that I saw on the news yesterday listed the LA area as having a true unemployment rate of 22%. We keep hearing about a 12% rate, and that is true with those that are looking for jobs, meaning that many have given up on finding anything at this time. Things are hard for those that are here. Trying from Europe may be even harder. To tell you the truth it is so bad that I have stopped mentioning to anyone that I just bought a home. Made that mistake at our sons socker practice and found out that one kids parents had just lost two homes. The dad had lost his job a year ago and is still out of work. You want to have compasion on these people and don't want to make a big deal about your own success because so many are hurting.

I'm sure you can find that type of job.

Then again, maybe not?

You have have to compete with all the laid-off people who have 20+ years in the workforce and degrees.

It used to be fun to go into many places because I am a dirty old man and like seeing lots of young ladies working in retail, food places, or what have you. Now those young ladies dads and moms are getting the jobs and heading to my favorite eatery isn't any more fun. (Don't let my wife know why I shop at certain places. LOL)

There are no jobs here. Period.

The only people I know that have found any are people with connections. If you have no connections you will NOT get a job.

Don't let anyone tell you different. Forbes magazine listed Los Angeles as the FOURTH WORST CITY to find a job in the US.

I'm one of those people that have officially stopped looking. I'm leaving here in January for good. It doesn't matter where I go, all I know is that ANYWHERE else has got to be better than LA.

So many people are leaving my apartment building not because they want to, but because they have to. Either they can't pay their rent and leave voluntarily or they get evicted.

There are no HOMELESS PREVENTION PROGRAMS in Los Angeles. If you can't pay your rent, welfare will not pay for it for you. What's crazy is that they'll pay up to $1,000 a month to house in a shelter hotel with no cooking utilties, but can't give you less than that to stay in your current apartment.

Backwards.

do you have paralegal experience? If so, get a hold of a Parker directory and start emailing, mailing & phoning the HR manager of every single law firm in SoCal to see if there are any openings. Offer to do an internship for a stipend.
