This morning the Los Angeles County District Attorney announced the arrest of 8 city of Bell officials including the former City Manager, Robert Rizzo [who was making a salary of nearly $800,000 a year]. The City of Bell, a relatively poor town in Los Angeles county, paid salaries that were exorbitant for even large cities. The LA Times uncovered this scam several months ago and today 8 members of the city government of Bell were arrested. There is justice!

I don't think it is merely political grandstanding even though the county district attorney [who happens to be a Republican] is running for California Attorney General and, of-course, the current attorney general is Jerry Brown. When the news of the salaries of Bell's city workers became public, the outcry was intense and the demonstrations in Bell have continued ever since. This was a scandal that could not be swept under the rug and I am glad these crooks have been arrested,

Don't they think to frisk this guy?!?

He's easily walking out with at least 5 mil (in singles) strapped to his gorgeous, svelte bod.

Does it really make much difference if he is a Republican or a Democrat? Did that have anything to do with his action?

It doesn't matter if Cooley is a Republican or Democrat. I merely pointed out to Curmudgeon that officials from both parties went after the Bell city officials so it is not necessarily politically motivated.

This is good news! I wasn't keep up with the news from Bell but I did assume it was going to just be an "oopsie" moment with no reprocussions.

This is absolutely appropriate. I don't whether it has an element of grandstanding or not. Corruption by any political office must be dealt with fiercely.
