I've been looking at some apartments in Hawthorn that are West of Chrenshaw Blvd. Is there anything I should worry about in this area? I plan on biking to work (near aviation blvd) and back pretty much every day of the week.

i'd try to live closer to aviation, east of the 405 is sketchy and gets sketchier the farther east you go.

Lets just say Hawthorne is not the town it was back in the 70s and 80s.

As far as safety goes. A mile or 2 West or Southwest would be a little better. I grew up in Hawthorne.

Hawthorne was nice many years ago. Then some parts were became worse than others. Now, it's pretty bad all over. I used to live there with a roommate. My former roommate recently told me that the area has gotten worse and isn't really safe anymore. She doesn't live there anymore either.

That's the case with a lot of areas around Los Angeles.

Hawthorne is getting worse, but there are still some nice areas... for one, I would check out the neighborhood known as Holly Glen... it's to the north of Rosecrans, just past the 405 on Isis. the two major streets to either side east and west are Aviation and Inglewood Avenue. Before my family moved to Torrance in 1983, we lived there all my life. My uncle still lives there. It's a nice area, as far as Hawthorne goes.

Well they slowly are trying to upgrade Hawthorne. They ought to demolish that mall and maybe put a Super Wal Mart in there.

My famous Mother who was an Actress (Rest in Peace Mom), anyway she knew Bo Derek when she was about 17. Bo was raised in Hawthorne back in the 60s and moved to where my dear mother lived at the time in Santa Ynez Valley. MJ was a neighbor. Anyway, Bo complained that Hawthorne was going down the toilet back in the early 1970s. Graffiti, gang-banging, etc. Imagine today the Hawthorne area must be a terrible place to call home. Have a great weekend folks!
