Hi,
i never been to LI. I am planning to take my kids to the airshow on sunday. I read that it is usually very crowded and if I arrive later than 9-10 am there will be no parking spot available.
I have to drive there since it will take very long and would be very tiring to take the train with 2 little kids and tons of stuff to carry.

So, what do u recommend? i thought there would be some street parking available bu when i checked the map i saw that there is no streets/ no town around the beach!

and also, what should I bring to the beach? It will be more than 1.5 drive and 2 kids... Planning to stay at least 5-6 hours. I am guessing there is just couple beverage & hot dog places. If I bring my own food, r there picnic tables at the beach?
sorry if i am asking silly questions but i have never been to a beach before

Awesome show! Nightmare parking/traffic. Get there very early and stay late to avoid the traffic. Try field 6 which is the beach furtherst East. Some tables not much, bring beach chairs and a blanket

Enjoy!

Ditto to the above. If you are there before 8 you should be fine...plus you'll have a good choice of spots on the beach to set up. The later you get there...the better chances you will sit in traffic for a few hours! It is $10 to park.

Also...getting out is just as bad. I work at the airshow...and was in the Emergency managers lot...and it still took 90 min to get out.

However...its all worth it. This is one of the best air shows in the world.

Some other suggestions...you may want to being earplugs for your kids if they have never been to an airshow before. Also...it will be warm and breezy Sunday, but the water is cold and there is a risk of rip currents. If you swim, stay close to shore and near a lifeguard. Do not forget sunscreen!

Suck it up hero. Grab the kids, hop in the car, leave early, and bring cash, sunscreen, towels, blanket, and water.

You know the drill.

Have fun.

If you've never been to a beach before you sure picked a busy day for your first time! But, yes, the airshow is spectacular. Every one and especially Alexei27 has given you good advice. Take it all or you'll have regrets that you didn't. Expect to see more humanity than sand or water, ha ha. And, you might want to revisit some calm weekday if you can so that you can REALLY experience a beach.

i liked the air-show a lot, I recomend it for everyone next year.
But I missed the fun at the main field cuz the people told us that field 2 is the best place to watch the airshow however when we walked on the bardwalk and saw that vendors etc were packing their stuff, I was so disappointed. Because we arrived at around 8 and waited till past 10 am for the show doing nothing because the water was so cold and waves were big. And after 3pm we stayed there just for nothing... If I knew I'd have grabbed the kids and go to field 4-5. But anyways, I learned it the hard way.
we arrived at 8-15 am but only 1/4 of the parking lot 2 was full.

A good alternative is one of the party fishing boats from Point Lookout,Freeport or possibly from Captri. Instead of fishing for the day, some of these boat make it a firework show day.
Enforcement will keep boats from anchoring up directly under the air show for safty reasons, but plenty of room in the ocean for a great view.
