Does anyone know this area? My husband and I are looking at a house there and would be interested to hear if its good, bad or if we should consider other areas. We would be moving from Westchester County to Ridge.
Also any information on the schools would be appreciated. I have been reading other posts about Longwood and as with most things there are good and bad. Thanks for your help.

Ridge isnt bad at all as long as youre comfortable with Longwood.
Some areas are really nice.
If Kellys around she can speak to specifics.
FWIW similar budgets would also put you in Rocky Point or Miller Place schools.
If you have any questions about Rocky Point PM me but theres nothing wrong with Ridge.

Ridge is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the northeast part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the north-central part of Suffolk County, along the Brookhaven/Riverhead town line.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Ridge in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by Hamlet of Rocky Point and the Hamlet of East Shoreham; on the east by the Hamlet of Wading River in the Town of Riverhead and the Hamlet of Calverton in the Town of Riverhead (the Brookhaven/Riverhead town line); on the south by the Hamlet of Yaphank (includes Brookhaven National Laboratory); and, on the west by the Hamlet of Middle Island and the Hamlet of Rocky Point.
The Hamlet of Ridge has a different border than does the "Ridge, NY 11961" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Ridge, NY 11961" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Ridge and a place can have other than a "Ridge, NY 11961" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Ridge): places that have a "Ridge, NY 11961" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Ridge are in the Hamlet of East Shoreham and the Hamlet of Yaphank; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Ridge with a "Shoreham, NY 11786" mailing address.
For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): Excellent Long Island Geographic Resource
I'm a resident of Ridge, scenic hills drive and the surrounding streets are nice, mostly well kept homes.
Ridge doesn't have much in the way of shopping, but Alfredos Pizza is great, The Steer Seller butcher is really good, our library is awesome.
Good luck!
Anthony, there are a few excellent buys in Panamoka right now.....forget the pool & go for the lake!
Panamoka has potential with the lake but that area has a few known drug houses. I've only driven through the community a few times and was put off by the large group of older kids walking around, I guess heading to the gas station on Rt.25. My neighbors have warned me the areas residents are kinda seedy, especially south of the lake.

hey they must be talking about me & my neighbors....I live directly south of the lake!
There are "known drug houses" in EVERY neighborhood. The biggest heroin bust to date on LI was in Oakdale.
yeah, teenagers walking around at night are really unusual & scary I guess if you live under a rock. They might have been walking to our community building for an adult supervised Teen Night that is held so the kids around here have a safe place to hang out.
Don't believe the hype, take a ride back up here anytime day or night & tell me if you see anything-Let me know when you're coming & I'll meet you outside so you can show me what you've found.
