I would like everybody's opinion who is familiar with the area. It is the in same school district, but yet, for some reason, I hear some negative remarks about south Bellmore. What is really the difference if any?

I live in South Merrick and went to JFK high school. I prefer Merrick because it is close to the Parkway, but I cannot really explain why one differs from the other. Since the neighborhood is middle to "upper" class some may say, you may have the typical "snobs" but that could be anywhere.

That entire area below Merrick Road is identical.
Really isn't any difference, only zipcode.
Hi-Ranch heaven.

Actually, there is a slight visual difference with the store fronts in the Merrick Harbor area looking a bit better and more modernized than in Bellmore. Looks a bit more built up too. Only a slight difference though.

both the same and different. I would say that there are certian parts of south merrick that I particluarly like over south bellmore. Specifically the series of stucco ranches and colonials.

I don't think there is any real reason to choose one over the other. i'm more familiar with bellmore. there are nice parts and their are some really crappy small canal streets.

It's the same school district on the middle school and high school level. If you care about ratings (which you shouldn't), JFK is probably the best school academically in the district. Both South Bellmore and South Merrick attend JFK high school.

Merrick is more high class, IMO and prettier to look at. Drive down Hewlett Ave to the water- ridiculous houses. South Merrick, as someone else mentioned, is closer to the Meadowbrook Parkway.

Snobs galore in both towns, but really is that any different from most of the towns on LI?

Well, compared to South Merrick at least...
However, there's one way South Bellmore is better...

South Bellmore is bordered by Wantagh on the east.
South Merrick is bordered by Freeport on the west.

Where would you rather live? Wantagh or Freeport?
