Now that I think about it, though, I did just return from a trip back to LI after an 18 month absence and it did seem different to me (will post later). I hung out with one of my HS buddies who is a teacher in a South Shore school district and he told me that there's more than one South Shore district that has a serious heroin problem.

As for pills, I have a Vicodin script for some disk issues. I don't abuse them and I have no desire to slam heroin anytime soon. I respect the drugs. Like Noel Gallagher once said after an operation, "painkillers are fun until you need them." I totally agree with Sean's post though, very well said sir. My drugs will be locked in a safe when my kids are old enough. I hope that's enough.

This poll is freaking me out.

I cant believe how many are in the "what problem?" camp.

If youre not freaking out ...youre either not paying attention or special.

you should have posted a "I'm know it's there but it's not affecting me" option. I suspect some of the "what problem" votes may fall into that group.

I wouldn't vote for #2 (cops have it under control) simply because i have no idea....

Have these robberies had the poor guy murdered , pistol whipped, stabbed shot to death. This used to never happen in LI ...so it is a different type of robbery ...called murder A robbery is not a robbery anymore if someone was murdered. In other words, some crimes are ok .
You have a mere 5 posts here so it wasn't hard to track down who you were referring to. Way to make things up to try and prove a point. What I had said was that 2 gas stations were robbed and a couple murders resulted, 2 in many years even if these 2 were close together. Whether the murder was a murder or not is not the main point. Let's see if you can follow... we were arguing whether this gave Hicksville a bad rap or even made residents scared to live in their town. So we look at why & how the murder happened. Was it random where anybody like ourselves would have been killed or was it a result of something else happening that wouldn't happen to someone at their home or on the street? This is what makes someone scared to live where they live. Are you putting 2 & 2 together yet? Simply saying "a murder happened, it's a scary place to live" is ridiculous. Live here after that murder and tell me you're scared. Until then, play armchair quarterback somewhere else.

You think things like these are excuses for wanting to live here? It's actually called first-hand experience. There are definitely negatives for LI but people like you reeeeeeeeeaching for reasons from behind your keyboard make me puke.

Heroin doesn't scare me. I lived in NYC during the heroin days of the 70's. Now crack....that scares me. That's when everything went crazy.

At least we don't have methamphetamine. It's decimating flyover country. I wonder why we don't have it. Not enough white trash types?

Dangerous stuff. Playing with fire.
I've suspected the nearby DairyBarn-like establishment is dealing something. Lots of young traffic who i doubt are buying milk and eggs. I could be wrong about that.

Don't see much gang evidence around here.
more likely those are weed bags

Nah, it's only a matter of time before he gets here. I believe it's already here but not on a large scale, I have heard of a few arrests related to it out east but nothing here in western Suffolk or Nassau. It seems to me that meth is mainly only found in rural areas.

Cant blame them, Some people are watchers and some people live in there own little worlds where you have a routine that doesnt involve opening your eyes and taking a good look around you. Nothing wrong with that either, Ignorance is bliss...sometimes I'm jealous.
