Skelos and Golisano are responsible for this mess. They made a political grandstand move, recruiting 2 bottom feeders from the other side ( to quote Golisano "it took a lot of resources", ie they paid them) to try to seize power that they did not win through election. Skelos is an arrogant jerk (I've met him), and it's not surprising he tried to pull off this ego driven nonsense.

I gotta admit, I've been following this since the story first broke but I still don't 100 percent understand all of it. Sounds like a real mess....

Republican Senator and angry Republican living in Florida who lost his Gubernatorial bid sees current Governor as weak due to economic crisis, decides to try to usurp the elected majority by buying off 2 Democrats who are of very questionable ethics..to put it mildly. Democrats block coup attempt.

Ahh this saga continues. Its pretty much a power grab by Skelos in order to give himself power and to help the GOP when redistricting comes around. For many years the GOP controlled the State Senate, the Dems controlled the State Assembly. The GOP had control of the drawing of the State Senate districts, the Dems had control of the drawing of the Assembly districts. They had a bit of a power sharing agreement for the Congressional Districts (incumbent protection).

With demographic and political changes the Dems were able to gain control of the State Senate and likely would be in complete control of the redistricting process two years from now. Skelos likely figured out that even with the Dems advantage only being a slim one, the chances of the GOP winning back the State Senate next year (the last election prior to redistricting) were extremely small, so he orchristrated a coup in order to regain power by alligning himself with the two biggest scumbags from either side of the political aisle, and making the one with the most massive ethical issues one step away from Gov (with no LT Gov currently, Pres Pro Temp would be next in command if something would happen to Patterson)
