Has anyone ever replaced the old GE wall hung oil boilers?
Where did you install the new boiler?
I can't find an oil fired wall hung boiler anywhere.
I can put a regular oil boiler under the stairs, but how do you run the chimney? (flue)
If you can post pics, please do, something doesnt make sense here.
I assume you are in a Levittown ranch-style house. Your options are limited in this case. The cape-style homes have the boiler under the stairs, and were accessed through the kitchen, but can be turned around to face the hallway by the bath.
The ranch home boilers were originally installed next to the fireplace, near the ceiling. Some are next to the fireplace, on the floor. Either way, it is an awkward spot.
I believe a replacement unit will have to be installed on the floor, next to the fireplace, since half the fireplace flue/chimney is for the boiler. Or, you could move the entire unit to the garage. That involves plumbing and moving the oil line, but most ranch owners move the unit to the garage when they replace. If you do move it to the garage, you can then move your washer and dryer there as well.
Can you convert to gas? Oil heating is such a money pit.
