Hi
Can someone please help me identify which roads I can use to move from Valley Stream to the Goethals.. please! We're moving to Mt. Laurel.
I know we can't take the truck on the Southern State, Meadowbrook, Belt etc. We normally take the SS to the Belt to the Verazzano in the car of course.
Any tips, maps, websites will be greatly appreciated.

You'll have to get up to the LI, then take the BQE to the Verazanno instead of the Belt, as you can't drive a truck on the Belt. Just take it slow on the BQE...it's beat to hell, narrow, winding, and people drive like maniacs...but then again, so is the Belt. You might be adding about 25 minutes to the trip..no biggie for a one time thing,
So, basic directions: go to the LIE (whichever way you normally would avoiding parkways)..take the LIE to the BQE (exit is on the right, after Lefrak City..you can't miss it)
get on the BQE south...this takes you to the Verazzano in about ...9-10 miles?...now, go the same way you would with a car to NJ.
Congrats on your move - I'm moving from Huntington to Central NJ next week dman72 has it correct. Obviously, you'll need to get to the Long Island Expressway from Valley Stream - I"m not 100% sure what the best way to get there form you is - you'll likely have to take backroads north or backroads west until you get to the Van Wyck.
Being that she's leaving from Valley Stream, going north to the LIE is a waste of time and gas, She might as well take
1: North Conduit to Linden Blvd to Fort Hamilton Parkway which goes to the the BQE/Goanus, from: valley stream ny to: staten island - Google Maps
or
2: North Conduit, to Atlantic Ave, to the BQE
There's more traffic lights, but you'll get to Brooklyn faster than getting to the LIE which is in the opposite direction of where you're going.

I need help.
I need to know, if parkway accessible on u-haul truck (14 feet) in NYC area.
Example - from Brooklyn to Staten Island - can I use Belt parkway, or Ocean parkway?
There are NO COMMERCIAL vehicles on the belt parkway. And if im not mistaken, commercial vehicles are not allowed on parkways. I used to drive a small cable truck(chevy astro van) and i could get a ticket if i were to be caught on the parkways.

If it doesn't have commercial plates you might be able to slide by, 14' isn't that big, but generally any box truck is gonna be required to get a commercial registration.
If you're already in Brooklyn and going to Staten Island, it's probably just as quick to take the side streets to the bridge though. Not really any point in risking a ticket getting on the Belt.
