Keep in mind your suburban neighbors who, unlike city dwellers, enjoy peace and quiet after dark. The noise generated from playing sports will easily carry for several homes. Our neighbor's boys are always outside during the day playing basketball in the driveway -- easily 300' from my house. We hear the bouncing. rebounds, smack talk, etc. Fortunately, their lights are aimed in the other direction.

Building code info is available here:

It'll take some work to dig up the specifics you asked for since they're a bit encyclopedic. Might just want to call the Town Assessor to get a simple answer.

Different people have widely varying sensitivities to noise and children's games. My old neighbor built a fence because the 5 yr old kids next door kept lobbing balls into their yard. After she put the fence up, the balls just got stuck in her back yard so she'd scream at the poor kids. Finally she got bit by a brown recluse, and that calmed her down for a while.

You could discuss with your neighbors first if there's a concern; often that step will alleviate issues down the road.

Actually this brings this story to mind and it is pretty funny.

With apologies regarding the Downs syndrome line, but I did not write this.

Talking to people about it first could help but in my experience, it always backfired. If your neighbors are a bit normal, they may be understanding. If not, they can be completely spiteful and try to make your life miserable. A lot of people here feel entitled to do anything they want to do because it’s their property and no one is going to tell them what to do. Good luck.
