I've been visiting Long Beach for over 20 years and have always loved it and wanted to live there, but never could. I am wondering how it has changed, if at all over the last 20 years. As a visitor, it always looks the same, same stores and restaurants still exist, not any boarded up storefronts, not a lot of overbuilding and gentrification. That's how it seems from a visitor's perspective. It seems like it still has a community feel to it, not an overabundance of chains. Wondering if Long Beach has changed over the years besides the obvious increase in real estate prices. Thanks.

The first thing that comes to mind is the “Superblock” site development, which comprises two 9-story condo buildings and a large apartment building, which combined will total over 430 units. I think two of the buildings are complete and visible from the bridge heading into town. A few restaurants have went out of business over the last year or so, but I don’t think there have been many other notable changes. I lived in Long Beach from 2018 to 2022 and loved it. Just found the commute getting anywhere to be tough, especially in the summer. LB residents have the greatest sense of community and belonging of anywhere I’ve lived.

4link, thanks for your response. Your last sentence was profound--what I have thought and hoped still exists there.
