Well, math proficiency is racist anyway. Those (Western) Greeks were slave holders and there are no right and wrong answers.

And proper grammar , with its “Anglocentric assumptions” is evidence of white supremacy.

Beyond that, we learned from the needless school shut downs that the looney left is not concerned about student academic success. Why not lower it to 40%?

Trophies and diplomas for everyone. Long Island can never have enough baristas and landscapers.

Back in the day was it 65 that was passing?
Then if you failed, you had to come in the next day and take the RCT (regents competency tests) which i believe have been phased out, which may be why they lowered the regents passing grades since the lower ranked kids take them. but i think they lowered the amount of regents you need to graduate.

regents back in the day was for the above average academic performers and the lower performing kids took the RCT.
do they even still have tracks in school now. what a mess this state has become with academics.

we used to have Talented and Gifted/Honors/Track 1/Track 2/Track 3/Track 4. it was very good and you could be in say track 2 10th grade english but track 3 math based on your skillset.

so you only had to deal with the malcontents in gym, art, etc. and the teacher didnt have to teach to the lowest common denominators in the academic courses.

COVID plays a big part in the change, but I'm curious as to if this was be changed again within a year or two.

A show about education in Buffalo that I post in the Upstate black communities thread on Saturday mornings at 10 am mentioned this some months back, in terms of the changes.

COVID is just the latest excuse the NYSED is using to boost POC graduation rates and test scores. The manipulation of the Regents test scores started in 2009.

Ironically, the POC graduation rates were increasing any way before COVID and black and brown students in charter schools around the state have higher test scores than students in "regular" public at least urban schools do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKF11zQxZY8 (around 3 minutes in). So, there are other factors to consider with this.
