Yawn. 1997 was a bit warmer. Don't worry, spring will be cold.
It’s because of a La Niña jet stream this was predicted and not unusual (has happened plenty of times before), and yes it’s been in the news. Google is your fiend Mr Pepe.

Thanksgiving through Christmas was well below normal.
It's very warm winter. Expect to be eaten alive by bugs this spring.

People don't but two and two together, but increasingly lack of prolonged (if any) deeply cold winters has allowed all sorts of vermin, insects and other pests to breed all year round. Those effing huge roaches (water bugs) are everywhere now even in "winter".
