Default Lightning Rod

Just be aware that antennas can act as lightning rods. Best to ground the wiring as well to protect from lightning.

Hi,

I cut the cord earlier this year as I'm in multiple streaming services (Disney/Hulu/ESPN, NBA League Pass and Netflix).

Overall. Good. BUT...

If you don't want to pay $70+ for the streaming services that carry all those kinds of channels, you are out of regular NBC, FOX, ABC...

In my case, while I had NBA League Pass and ESP+ I was missing the Play Off games that air in normal ABC or in cable ESPN. Those aren't in ESPN+ or NBA League Pass. The cheapest way to get those was with Sling ($35/month), which I unsubscribed from once the NBA was done. In Sling you get ESPN3 or something like that that put the games that were on ABC.

So, I bought one of these flat antennas. Actually two as the first one wasn't too good. The best coverage I get is If I put it in the attic next to the air vent. In a normal day, I can get most of those channels. On a windy or rainy day, just some of them. And, hopefully somebody corrects me, but, I think we, in Suffolk, are in a bad spot, because we either get the signal from NYC or from Connecticut. Both are pretty far away. So, unless you put a good bulky outdoor antenna in the roof or you are in a very good geographically location (I'm like in a small valley... not good for this!) you are going to have problems to get the signal.

Still, I haven't found a CHEAP ($30 range) to watch the regular NBC, FOX, ABC in streaming. Luckily my favorite news are PBS and the PBS app is free in any smart TV and you can watch News Hour there.

Honestly, I can't believe that this will go like this for many years. Now that more and more people are cutting the cable, I can't see that this system will continue for too long for the local channels.

Regards,
Fran

Cord cutting blows. You save about $10 a month, and sht is all over the place. I'll gladly pay a few more bucks, and have a proper settop box, and guide, and get everything in one spot.

My Verizon FIOS bill was $220/month. Now is $100 with the phone and the better Internet bandwidth. I already had Netflix, Prime, Disney so, as I see it, I am saving $120/month except in the months that I pay for something extra like Sling or Paramount +. But, in general I'm still saving quite a lot of money. But, yes, it's not for everybody as it is not perfect.

Hipo

I have roof antenna. Great reception. Don’t miss the cable bill at all. Total waste for the 2 or 3 channels I occasionally watched. Between that, and the preloaded channels on the smart tv I’m good. I have internet only, no phone, no TV.
