They have done an excellent job exposing corruption over the years in the police department, school districts and politicians. I recall Sydney Shanberg writing about the Nassau Coliseum and Al D'amato, more recently Sandra Peddie and Joy Brown. The Roosvelt Raceway debacle up through Mangano, Cuomo and Skelos and they more recently had an award winning series on Red Lining by real estate companies.
Great paper for the local news.
I forgot who the columnist that did the weekly columns on human interest stories on LI with the handle bar mustache, Ed Lowe.
All the 'exposure' of corruption seems to be going anti-cop and anti-GOP. I used to like Newsday but they too fell into the TDS trap, and the following decline of the media.

Newsday also sees racism everywhere on Long Island and did a big investigation about real estate agents supposedly keeping blacks away from white neighborhoods and in another investigation they blamed the police and county for the death of a black woman who kept going back to an abusive boyfriend.
I only read it when I'm stuck at the car dealer getting my car serviced. Back in the old days loved it read a copy daily and bought the Sunday edition...same with NYT

Exposing police corruption and abuse is not anti-cop, they do an excellent job investigating. Mangano, Burke and Skelos are in jail to mention a few so I can see why you may think they are anti-GOP.

The red lining in real estate was not "supposedly", it was well documented and many firms were fined.
I think you are referring to the Joanna Bird story, if so the police behavior was criminal.

What do those 3 all have in common? Riiiggghhhtttt.
But the point is they do an excellent job exposing corruption, I could care less if it was a republican or democrat.
I would like to see them investigate Democratic corruption for once.
