LIRR's 1980s-era train cars back in fleet, with M9s on wait-list- per Newsday article. Says 110 of them will be back in the lineup by the 4th quarter. Will not go to GCT though. There are only 120 M9s in service and they need the M3s to shore up the additional trains till all the M9s are ready in 2023 They will keep them around till 2027 , when the M9A (whatever those are) show up.
Brings back memories, grosser bathrooms , crappy seats , just awful, except for maybe that single seat. Looks like my commuting days are going to end using the same trains I did when I started my career as these were rolled out in 1985 and I started commuting in 84. Also they fail at about 66k miles while the M7 at 410k, so I would expect more delays. Yes, it's a small number compared to the 830 M7's, but with my luck it will end up one of my trains.
Maybe they can bring back the old diesels, so people can smoke in the vestibule and jump on and off them while they it's moving. I remember getting workout with the awful shocks bouncing us up and down.
Remind me to invest in Duct tape. How else are the going to do repairs.
I used to cringe when that train arrived. Would have to walk 4-5 cars to find one that didn’t smell like ****. 29 months since I stopped commuting 2-3 days a week. Been on lirr 3x round trip penn and home from ubs arena. What a train wreck they are. I fell bad for people who still commute. Over priced and never on time not a good business model.
They are putting them on the Brooklyn route right now - into Hempstead, Far Rockaway, Long Beach. The trains are disgusting. The seats have no springs left so it is like sitting on cardboard and they are low so tall people have their knees in their chin. They don't have the overhead screens so you can't tell what station the trains are in at night - you can't see out the windows because they are all filthy and the conductors are too lazy to announce the stops. There is also a lovley echo when you are listening to other people's phone conversations, radios and TV shows because the new crowd taking the RR aren't the same professional working class crowd you used to get - and on days when there are concerts, games etc at the UBS arena - well, avoid the Hempstead line at all cost. LOL and to think a few years ago the LIRR was focused on providing WIFI on the trains - they can't even manage springs in the seats.
