I have prepaid for 20 piano lessons for my kid and unfortunately it's not working out with the teacher. Long story short now we want to leave the teacher but still have 10 lessons left (only half way through). The teacher is a difficult character (reason why I want to leave) and I'm sure she'll pull out all the stops. I paid in cash so aside from some emails talking about lesson times, I don't have any form of receipt. If the teacher refuses a refund for remaining lessons, is there anything I can do or at least file a complaint? Need help please! Thank you.
Irs would be a nice notification for unreported income on their end.
Good luck.. the IRS has a lot more important issues to deal with than a measly case of unreported income especially if the OP cannot show any evidence that the piano teacher is in fact not reporting it.
Next time get a receipt and document the number of lessons given. Ever heard the term… buyer beware? That being said.. The IRS can’t find their butt with two hands and a flashlight.

Agreed but the question was how to solve the issue. Not how to help in the future. Whenever someone hears the irs getting involved it sometimes help.
What would a receipt do? Small claims court? Waste of time also.
Did you call the town and ask if operating the business from the location is legal?
I support handling it civilly but that’s just me.

What proof would you offer the town? Presence of a piano that's completely legal to own? This sort of business is also almost always allowed as a home profession. The Town doesn't involve itself in the finances, just building use and physical structure.
Complaints like this- where people attempt to drag the Town into their personal problems and rivalries- are also why code officials sometimes loathe dealing with the public.
Her policy is not to give refunds in a situation such as this? And you feel it is unfair? Doesn't seem illegal. You may not like it, but not sure who you would complain to...the national association of piano teachers?
Paid cash as that's the teacher's preference. No benefit either way to me, not as if I get a better rate by paying cash. I want to handle this civilly believe me.

While I would normally agree with you, don't be so sure....with the alleged 80k extra agents they hired. Don't forget, they're tracking any cash transactions in bank over $600.

Exactly! I can’t wait for the surprise of people saying well my tenants pay the rent through Venmo or the fantasy sports players getting thousands through Venmo. People in for a rude awakening.
