On minimum wage there's no way you can rent an apartment by yourself, either get some roomies, or look to rent a room in a shared house.

But it was 40 years ago. I still remember going to look at a hole in the wall apartment on Thompson Street in the village in 1986. Your bathroom sink was your kitchen sink and the kitchen table was a door that you put over the dual-function sink. Luckily, this apartment had it's own bathroom, which was little more than a closet with a shower. Rent on this unit was $700/mo. I got there at 11 AM on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The line of prospective renters stretched down the block and around to w. 4th street. Ah, the golden days of my youth.
