Looking into buying a house in Port Washington or Garden City. Since I have to commute to the city can someone tell me how difficult it is to finding parking with a resident permit? And what time does it usually fill up where you can't get a spot?
As for Garden City, I heard you can go to other stations with a resident pass - but are they all difficult to find parking? Thanks!
There are plenty of parking at Garden City station. I drive by there every day and see 40+ spots on the south side at 8AM.
I've been to Port washington LIRR and had to park at the firehouse (with permission from my captain) to go to the city for 2 months. I never saw parking spots there which was around 7:45am. There may be parking spots further away from the station though.
Depending on where you end up living in GC you can usually walk to a station, there are plenty of options, Garden City, Country Life Press, Nassau Blvd, Merilon Ave, New Hyde Park and Stewart Manor. Even Mineola Station if you live over that way. Most of them will have ample parking, used to walk by Stewart Manor all the time and there would always be spots available.
Moved to Garden City 2 years ago and was the best decision. Walking to the train and not having to drive & deal with parking is life changing. Commute from Stewart Manor stop is very easy & fast. Area is nice because you can walk to main line was well (New Hyde Park, etc).
I used to commute on the Port Washington Line, which was great. However, finding parking at those stations is difficult (from what I have heard), I used to drive to Bayside which I did for 15 years and would never do again.
