I read online that there were ferry services run between NYC(to midtown, downtown, or both?) and Glen Cove last summer.

Has anyone here experienced it? If so, how was it? And how long does it take to NYC?

I'm curious about whether the ferry service is going to fly. I work in downtown Manhattan where the ferry dock is just one block away. We might be interested in the new development at Garvies Point. Anybody is familiar with that area in general? Any insights appreciated!

Thanks

Although I no longer am a Long Islander, I rode the Oyster Bay line for years and still have many friends in that area. To the best of my knowledge, that ferry was an end around for decreased service on the LIRR, last summer. Friends that tried it were disappointed with the lack of a flexible schedule and if you missed it on the home bound then you were either adding an uber or taxi ride to the cost unless someone from home could pick you up. The terminal has been built and the area is still under construction, so I would say that obviously at some point it will be offered but as far as I know as of now there is no actual cast in stone plan for it to open. I had heard that 2020 was what they were shooting for, but if there is no subsidy to be obtained, it might be a bit costly for the average person on a daily basis. It was used interchangeably with a LIRR ticket last year and the MTA subsidized it to keep the fares equal to a train ticket.
