We are looking to move from our current area.
We have a child in elementary school and one in high school.
We are looking for a family friendly, safe neighborhood from western Suffolk through Nassau, north or south shore.
We need 4 bed/2 bath, garage and basement.
We would like to keep it in 600,000’s and taxes 14k and under.
We are trying to avoid being in the path of a plume or near a dump, recycling facility, power plant and high tension power lines.
Any ideas?

That is a pretty reasonable price range for Commack, East Northport, parts of Northport, parts of Dix Hills, parts of Huntington. Also, Kings Park.

That rules out a good portion of LI.

675k should get you a move in ready house in Nassau taxes at 14k is doable. Be careful with the reassement coming 14 could be 16 in 3 years.

I agree with the locations suggested by TomMoser. You will make yourself crazy if you start putting too many requirements on your list along with other considerations mentioned here.

Sure, a reassessment can raise taxes, but it can also lower them or they could stay the same; it often ends up 1/3, 1/3, 1/3. You would actually have to attempt to estimate the effect of reassessment on the specific property you have an interest in.

Are you going to start worrying that PSEG/LIPA has tax grievances currently being argued that will affect many of the recommended areas? Like hotkarl says you could end up eliminating much of LI, or at least those where you might otherwise desire to relocate because of good schools, safe community, etc.
