Yeah I know it's been 3 years but you've got to be kidding that you "couldn't afford" what the going rates were to euthanize your dog. Suck it up...$250 to do what's right for your suffering pet can be found if you wanted to bad enough....put it on a credit card or if the vet doesn't take them withdraw against a card. You don't have $250 in a savings account and you have a house in Bethpage? Something's wrong here. It's $250 not $5000. I can see not making fancy after-care arrangements or buying tombstones, urns, etc. but anyone who can't scrounge up $250 in a jam is Moderator cut: language removed . You won't be buying dog food so that's $40 you'll recoup the month after. I know you won't reply but I'm curious as to what you did and how you "afforded" it....Unbelievable, carrying on like it was a massive expense.

You are a real nasty piece of work. I asked for help, not a lambasting. I did not come here to get berated by some random keyboard warrior. Turns out she just had a urinary tract infection and a nice person here who wanted to actually help me and not "tell me off", pm'd me and helped me find a vet that worked with me. She is still alive and is well. Now go yourself and go ahead and look for another random person to "tell off" on another thread. Sheesh.

Glad it was just a UTI, but it does highlight the need to have regular veterinary care and an annual checkup. What’s important is she’s alive and well.

Thank you! She is doing great and had an annual check up and got a clean bill of health not too long ago

Do a go fund me.

A realistic minimum budget for having a dog is $1,000 per year. A single vet bill could be in the thousands. Grooming alone for my dog is about $900 for the year. Heartworm preventive is $200 a year. Average vet bill $350x3 year occasional $1,500 to $3,000 outliers.

Over the life of a dog say $15,000 to $50,000.

I take a hard line on business (dollars, strategy) but a dog is a living thing that requires a Baseline of care and commitment. You need finanical resources to own a dog.

So what you're saying is if someone came to your request 3 years ago to do it cheaper, your dog would not be here today, right? Your original post stated you felt no medical care would help and you were looking for a budget euthanasia service (after all, in your own words $250 was unaffordable). So what would've been the magic price...$150? And your dog wouldn't be here....and you call me nasty?

I stumbled upon this thread while searching for a compassionate in-home euthanasia service to first evaluate and ensure the decision was proper and to set my mind at ease I couldn't do any more. I wasn't soliciting a no-frills outfit to do the deed for the cheapest price.

So while going through that hardship, to read the words you wrote was a bit disgraceful on your part. Call me what you will, but look at your situation first.

I pay $100 a month for pet insurance. My nearly 7 year old Lab just had her first claim (minor) so it adds up.

But my last Lab was like $10,000 a year for her last few years. Cancer with radiation therapy, cruciate repair, other cruciate repair, diabetes, and other issues.
