Again, richer neighborhoods don't believe in Christmas lights, and the north shore is mostly rich towns. Same thing along the South Shore, less impressive displays in places like Merrick, Bellmore, and Wantagh, they used to be great but the Yuppies moved in & its all downhill. Nothing but Benzes in that KK shopping center in Bellmore!
Best displays usually are in more middle class areas, whatever remains of it is in the middle of the island.
Surprisingly even Hempstead has some nice Christmas lights, even poorer towns have better lights than rich ones.
The rich would rather spend their money on themselves than share it in a Christmas display.

At least I can tell in my block who are the Chosen ones (pretty much everyone). Although I was thoroughly shocked my Italian neighbor directly across the street from me who constructed a hideous McMansion complete with dual Italian lions at the entry way did not put up a single light or wreath.

Not sure how much it has to do with rich or middle class compared to celebrating Christmas and not. Many areas of the North Shore have a large Jewish population as does areas of Merrick and Bellmore near the water. I bet you would see more Christmas Displays in Garden City than you would in pretty close to equally as wealthy Jericho or more middle class (in comparison anyway) Plainview.

Dyker Heights Brooklyn is by far the best I've seen, if you're willing to make the journey

Merry Christmas!

I don't think people care what "kind" of people have great displays and what "kind" of people do not. We just want to know where the best houses are so our kids can go "Wow!... Awesome...Mom did you see...That is sooooo cool......OMG......". Let's keep this real people. I highly doubt your child is saying "Damn Yuppie". And if they are, you have failed.

Does anyone know where to buy the lawn lighting system that makes it look like your whole house has lights on it?

Got ours at Bed, Bath & Beyond, but they've been sold out for weeks. They're called the Star Shower.
