You know what's interesting - typically public workers do things that would preserve their jobs for the long run. Complete removal of these trees goes against that since concrete won't need to be replaced, trees won't need to be cut back, and grass won't need to be maintained. Maybe the $6mil fee more than makes up for it.

Also, the pic of those pavers on the FB page... that must've cost a pretty penny.

It's no wonder he's so gung-ho on spending (giving) all this money. The bigger the project, the better for both parties. It's actually no surprise given that this "beautification" is nothing more than ripping everything out and placing new concrete down with tiny little trees. Is that really more beautiful in suburbia?

I don't hate the guy. He's done a lot to the parks in the county - he's made a lot of progress. But this whole tree thing is just too much.

Any contract that Nassau gives out simply GOOGLE the company name with MANGANO and you will see why they got the contract!

Lots of trees being destroyed today north of the Plainview shopping center. This is the other side of the road where many went down a couple of weeks ago. Mangano destroying property values and raising your property taxes in the same swoop. A winning ticket.

The irony is, Town of Oyster Bay is extremely tree friendly, and supervisor Venditto even proclaimed an ordinance that homeowners are prohibited in taking out any tree over 6'' trunk diameter without a permit, or face $200 fine.

Back in 1997, TOB saved trees even larger and older than Mangano is destroying--and in planting strips of the same width. They cut lateral roots, and as an example of success, three gigantic sycamores (3' diam. trunks and 50') down the block from me lived on and just slightly began raising the walk in 2013. Further testament is that they survived Sandy with almost no damage. NYC also finds a way to preserve its trees. Hundreds line streets (trees now over 40') in the much more urban concrete jungle of the West Village in Manhattan.

It goes to demonstrate Mangano's destruction of our property values, and the very quality of our neighborhood is completely unwarranted. This same disaster took place in Seaford in August, as noted--200 old oaks--which also was heavily protested by residents, but to no avail. This county's arrogance, ignorance, and incompetence shouldn't be allowed to stand.

"A state judge Friday ordered Nassau County to stop cutting down trees along South Oyster Bay Road, granting a temporary restraining order to a group of residents angered at the county's plan to remove about 200 trees. The plaintiff's attorney argued in court filings that the county failed to follow state environmental laws." #savethetrees #operationstomp

Suburbs = trees. They define the look of it. Does Mangano think he has a political future after destroying the character of locales throughout the county?

I recently drove down Jerusalem Avenue in Hicksville. Where are all the lindens that used to line that thoroughfare as well? Looks like another Mangano-induced wasteland. No replacement trees in evidence, as is largely the case along So. Oyster Bay Road the last several years. Yesterday I noticed dozens more thick stumps below Old Country Road. This is on the Hicksville/Bethpage border. All the utility poles exposed. This $5 million FAKE BEAUTIFICATION disgrace paid for by the taxes he's raising this year (another campaign lie). Money made by his tree destroying contractors, all paid for by all Nassau County taxpayers.

It's time to start a recall movement, now that his stooge judges have come to his rescue like the Republican lapdogs they are -- against the will of the public, regardless of the amount of names on the petition against this.

It may not happen right away, but after he cuts through enough of this county, it's not hard to foresee thousands of people demanding his ouster. This is undoubtedly destroying property values.
