Did anyone see them last night? We were going to go find a dark place somewhere, but chickened out. News 12 showed some pictures taken in Southhold. Skies may clear tonight so that they will be visible, but I'd like to know in advance a good viewing spot. Some people tried their luck at Robert Moses and Jones Beach last night, but didn't see anything.
Hi Coney! I was going to the north shore beach last night but it got so late and I had to be up for work today. When I was just a kid, maybe 7 yrs old, we had just moved to NH and were at a drive in theater with my Mom and friends. Suddenly the entire sky lit up with rolling lights of every color. Everyone got out of their cars to look. Me, being a neurotic kid, thought it was the end of the world and screamed my head off. I was inconsolable. We left the movie early.
It was an amazing thing to see. Doubt it would be as vivid on LI.
We tried, Sunken Meadow booths were closed even though the state is supposed to allow Star Gazers into the field or allow Night Fishers down to the beach after closing.
All other North Shore locations with views of the northern horizon were either on busy over passes or owned by small villages with keep off, residency required signs.
We went back home and saw nothing.
