they have good fries, but the closest to me was nearly 3 towns away at the edge of Westbury. Are they all closing?

No, but they should. In the world of low-effort fast food places, they manage to be pretty awful at even doing that.

There was a Checkers on 347 just east of 25 which closed about 18 months ago. I recently went to a Checkers on Portion Rd and the hamburger was disgusting. Never again.

I thought this was going to be a thread honoring Richard Nixon's old dog.

The one by Smithhaven Mall lasted less than a year, now it's a tagged up eyesore. They cleared land to create more vacant retail space when the sixth avenue electronics shopping center right down the road has been completely vacant for years. Why has sonic not moved into this space instead of clearing more land that borders right on a residential neighborhood?

The last two times I'd gone to Checkers in Bay Shore (now replaced by a Chase Bank) before it closed, I got food poisoning. A new one reopened in the South Shore Mall food court, and it seems to get a decent amount of foot traffic. Don't know if the one in Brentwood is still there, but the gals at the Academy of St. Joseph would cut class to get food there.

I'm not a man of discriminating taste when it comes to fast food, but Checkers is light speed awful. Up there with Applebee's and the Olive Garden for "restaurants" never to go to.

I've had it but only in Florida. And it was good, like twice as good as what you'd get at Burger King. Maybe it's a lousy franchise owner on Long Island that's messing things up?
