i just found a termite swarm near my back stoop. I don't think there were that many (maybe 100 or so). i have some history of termite damage in the house, but i don't see any active mud tubes yet. My basement is completely open, so i think that if there were any tubes i would be able to see them.
I had a termite treatment two years ago, using the "advanced" bait system, but the contractor was extremely irresponsible, so i didn't renew the contract.
Could someone recommend a reputable termite treatment company.
termites are very active this time of year. You may or may not see their trail of mud if they get into the wood before the expose part that you can see. The bait system is a total joke. It 's a hit or miss type system, Use the spray/liquid treatment for a much better/safer way to protect your investment. Ours cost $1050 for a 10 year program. 10 year warranty if I choose to pay them another $125 per year but........ I chose to get the spray then take my chances. If I/or you call a termite service business an ask they will provide a free termite inspection. this way I get a inspection for free, and still have a 10 year service, and it doesn't cost me another $125... If termites are found the company that did the first spray job will retreat it for free.
Get more than one estimate.... Mind varied as much as $900.00 for the same treatment... Shop around!!!
Also, has anyone had good results treating the termites themselves. I am not a big fan of getting strangers to come into the house. "Shopping around" often times means getting 5 or more different strangers in the house with 5 different and contradicting opinions.
Termites are active all year round. They only swarm this time of year. If you find that a swarm has occurred, the termite colony that is damaging your home has been there 5-7 years! Stoops are a common spot for activity. I would drill and have direct injection of termiticide applied to the stoop area. Baiting stations work but may take a while to work.
