What is a good career on Long Island to aim for or get? Something that doesn't need a degree from college? I graduated from a four year college with a Film/Video degree but am okay with doing a different career. Something 40,000 a year or more. Any ideas?
Honestly, if it was as easy as that then nobody would be in poverty/struggling. If you don't have experience or relevant education then you're condemned to low-paying/low-quality jobs until you get some marketable skills.
- Seriously look into getting a Medical Assistant or Nursing Aide certificate: you can start at around $30k with these jobs.
- Or go to Community College and get an Associate in Nursing, HVAC or Accounting since those are marketable right after you graduate and they pay very fairly. Since you already went to college then you can transfer your gen eds and finish the program much faster than you think.
- I heard bus drivers make decent wages. According to the advertisements, you can make $30-$40k being one.

What is the name of the college you graduated from?
It's here on the island. I rather keep that disclosed
So it's not a prestigious school, so it's going to be harder to switch careers to an unrelated major.
First of all, have you contacted your school's placement or careers department to see if they can get you any job interviews with employers that just want someone with a 4 year degree and are not picky about what the degree is in?
