I am trying to find a condo/apartment/ townhouse for my mom who is 68. She is widowed and lives in Nassau County, she will be retiring hopefully next year and is looking to possibly sell her home and move closer to me. She does not need assisted living or a gated community. I live in Islip and there are several in the area which I plan to check out, I am doing research online but not finding anything I am looking for. If she decides to sell and move out here she would not want to be more than 15-20 minutes away or even closer if that's possible. Right now she is 40 minutes away. She was recovering from a broken tibia awhile back and her leg is not 100% but she is self sufficient, and does not need assisted living or in home care. She would also prefer a place on one level (no stairs) I'd be open to rentals as well as buying. There are many in Islip I plan to check out but if anyone can recommend a community that would be great. I would go as far as Sayville and as far west as Babylon. Thanks. Don't have a price range right now just getting some Ideas and info for her. It would not be until sometime end of next year. I am hoping for sooner though. A list of communities would be a good start then I can go from there on my own.

Why not look into the new ones built behind the Central Islip courthouse?

They look nice. Not sure on the price tho.

I looked at those already and they are sold out at the moment plus they have 2 levels and she wants one level. I think they start at $350,000 not sure though.

My parents have been in Sayville Commons off Lakeland for six years. They just renewed a two year lease. Nice place.

she is smart to look for one level...do not be swayed...my parents moved to a townhouse at age 70 and within 5 years the stairs were too much. They are very happy with one level living now.

. I know when my mom does sell and retire she may be only able to afford around $250,000. She is reluctant to move into a senior community because she does not see her self as one LOL (doesn't look 68 either) I told her she did not have to join any senior activities but she could live in a community with people similar in age and not have to worry about young kids, loud parties etc.... She automatically thinks it's like assisted living and I keep telling her it's not. I emailed her one I saw in Sayville and it was gorgeous but it was $399,000 and that's out of her budget at the moment.I just looked at these it seems they are one level no stairs am I right??? The rent seems reasonable for a 2 bed 2 bath.

These are 2 br/bath single floor units. Rent is about $1800 month. There are folks 55 to 95 though when I visit I see more under 70 than above. My old farts love living there. When they sold their home in Bay Shore in 2007 I was expecting them to dislike renting. Boy was I wrong. Something goes wrong and they call the office. Problem fixed by next day. They recently had a tray in fridge break. That day....fridge out and new one in. I could live there in a heartbeat. Write a check once a month.

Grant and Moffit in Islip, I don't know if they are still selling but they do have some for rent.

Lubby not sure if you have heard of the rezoning plan for Islip. A builder is trying to rezone some property in Islip for residental to build 96 apartments and a mini self storage.
