Housing values in my area are slowly losing air like a balloon. Property taxes paid are a scandal. When you compare similarly situated homes in NC, AZ, or MN, residents are paying 1/5th the amount of what we pay here. I just want close my eyes and weep my eyes out.

I don't think Zillow property values are all that accurate, to be honest.

Add about 20-30 grand to that, and that's what you may very well get.

Look at the house at the very very northwestern tip of the Old Field peninsula by Stony Brook. I highly doubt that house is only $4m.

I want to cry that anyone thinks Zillow is accurate.

Take a look at the schools listed for any house - they just list the closest schools. That's not always correct.

That's just for starters.

Do Zillow, then eappraisal.com, then look for the fair market value on mynassauproperty. Then figure somewhere in the middle or high side of all that.

Zillow is not accurate with anything. Redfin and all that other sites are the same. I don't trust those numbers, especially when it comes to monthly mortgage payments.

Zillow shows somewhere on its site its statistical confidence of how good its prices-estimates are for each region. They admit they are not very good for the NYC area. Considering the connection between school district and house prices in places like LI and Westchester, I'd say zestimates are not even worth looking at. They simply list the geogbrpahically nearest schools. It'd be easy to fix their algorithm to compare houses within the same SD, but they don't. So ignore them.

I don't think the OP is complaining about Zillow itself. Looks like the OP is complaining about price of homes and property taxes. Notice they are comparing to other states.
